Ziegler - Jagdgeschwader 26 -Info needed!

    Hello!

I have recently got a grouping from a Hauptman Ziegler in Jagdgeschwader 26. (Later Major).

I have his insignia, a hand made wooden 109 with very high details as a memory of his time at Carpiquet. Some sort of ´Annerkennung' Silver Goblet with a citation to him from Jagdgeschwader 26.

I would love to know if anyone has any info on him!

    Regards

I'm afraid there is no 'Ziegler' with a JG-26 link listed in the Luftwaffe Officer Career listings and no mention of any 'Ziegler' in Caldwell's JG-26 War Diary.

Erm - Strange, I wonder why he is not listed?

Would it be that he was in another unit? But was given the Goblet from JD 26?

As it says for good work together with JD 26 - and the large 109 has different shields on the plane.

      Thanks

I will post a few pictures up of the grouping, then hopefully someone can help.

I did find on google one guy listed as having 11 Kills during WW2 - Name Rudolf Ziegler. But no Mention of the unit.

        Regards

So here is the only Zieglers that i found matching the rank.

The question is - between the 15.7.1941 to 12.4.1942 he was with JG 26. So who could it have been?

Got a few of his non-Luftwaffe related documents today after looking through the boxes of the house clearance.

                  This was the owner...

                  ZIEGLER, Benno. c.01.04.44 Maj., appt Kdt. Fl.H.Kdtr. A 5/III (to c.10.08.44).

                    Chris,

                    Much more clear now.

The aircraft model and the goblet are "thank you gifts" presented to him by JG.26.
In that time frame a part of JG.26 was stationed at Carpiquet France.
JG.26 thanked him for the good cooperation during this period.

And as you did show yourself.
Benno Ziegler was an air-base commander.

                    Best regards

                    Eric-Jan

                      Thanks for your response!

Yes they look like that, at least now we know the story behind it now.

Is the plane also from JG 26? If so - who was the plane modeled on? It has very specific details such as kill markings and numbers. Any idea who it was? That said it was certainly a very well decorated man because of those kills.

If you need any better pictures I can upload some!

                        Hi,

Caen-Carpiquet was a fighter-bomber base often used by the Jabostaffel of Jagdgeschwader 2 in 1942, and I'd suggest that is the unit of the aircraft depicted in the model you have. That Staffel used a chevron-bar (<-) marking aft of the fuselage cross, and also had shipping victory tallies on the yellow rudders of its Messerschmitt Bf 109s. Frank Liesendahl's aircraft from that Staffel had similar markings, and can be seen here: http://guerra-abierta.blogspot.com.a...iesendahl.html

The Jabostaffel of Jagdgeschwader 26 used a bomb marking aft of the fuselage cross on its Messerschmitt Bf 109s.

                        Cheers,
                        Andrew A.

For sure I think this aircraft markings are linked to what you have mentioned!

                          Thanks very much!
