    U 610

    Gentlemen,

Probably, you have any information on this boat (not published on uboat.net)?
    http://www.uboat.net/boats/u610.htm

Fragments of memoirs (reports) with a mention of actions U 610?
    Photos of this boat?

The emblem of the boat is the city coat of arms?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Igor,

It is the coat of arms of the Freiherr von Freyberg.
So the CO of U-610 did use his own family coat of arms.

    Best regards

If you can track down the 2 volume work 'U-Boat Operations of the Second World War' by Kenneth Wynn (1998 Caxton Editions), Volume 2 has all of this U-Boats patrols (pages 79 - 80, in Volume 2), including the sinking of the boat....

"On the 7th of September 1943 Convoy SC 143 was assumed to be in the area where destroyers were seen. During the early hours of the 8th U 610 made an unsuccessful attack on a destroyer of the convoys escort. Later in the day the boat was sighted on the surface WSW of Rockall by a Sunderland of 423 (RCAF) Squadron (F/O A. H. Russell). Three depth charges were dropped, which sank U 610.
Although some members of the crew were seen to be in the water, there were no survivors, 51 dead."
