    Infanterie-Regiment 181

    Gents,

I have award docs for a gent in IR181 and I am trying to figure out where he was. Any help appreciated!

    EK2 awarded "for battles on 17 & 18 Oct 1939"

EK1 I have a better idea but wonder where I can find info on the battle: Awarded on 29.6.40 "Weil er am 10.6 bei Poilcourt-Sydney in schneidigen Vorgehen seinen Zug mit vorriss und als einer der ersten in das zunaechste vom feind noch stark verteidiger Dorf eindrang."

    Many thanks!
    Nick

The entry on Lexikon for IR-181 has a fair bit of details for that period, including the fighting on 17 & 18 October 1939...

Yep, the Saar fighting lasted from October 16-24 where the German Army retook German territory taken by the French a few weeks earlier. Definitely a historically significant award of the EK2
