Information on Panzerschiffe Graf Spee LW observer Detlef Spiering

I have been doing a bit research concerning the Pilot and Observer aboard Graf Spee in 1939.

Oblt.z.See Detlef Spiering, was the Observer aboard Graf Spee. The Pilot was killed during the battle with British and New Zealand cruisers.

I believe Spiering was killed off the coast of Italy in 7 July 1942 after a raid to Malta. Ju-88 pilot at that time. Spiering escaped from Argentina in 1940.

If it is the same Spiering, he was a Haupt. in the LW at time of death. There are no other Spierings in the records of the LW that I can find. When the LW took over all naval aircraft, those officers could stay in the KM but not as an aviator. Or, they could transfer into the LW. I am speculating Detlef Spiering transferred to the LW.

Unfortunately, I cannot find out the full name of Haupt. Spiering, just his last name.

Does anybody have any further information on the full name of Haupt. Spiering?

    Thanks, John
