    Russia.Ostroff.1941

Can you tell me please what german divisions were involved in battle for this town in 1941. It is to the south of Pleskau-Pskoff.
My Grandad fought there but told me a little. He was in 3d tank division (1 tank corps) he was BT-7 driver. He told that after this battle all division was terminated, he lost his tank too, but managed to escape.

The German units that fought around Ostrov from 4th July 1941 came from 1. Panzerdivision.

Kampfgruppe Krüger (Schützen Regiment 113, I./ Panzer Regiment 1, II./ Artillerie Regiment 73) captured Ostrov on 4th July and defended the town against Soviet counterattacks on 5th July. They claimed to have destroyed 100 Soviet tanks during the fighting.

          Hi Ilya,

Unfortunately the 1. Panzer Division history doesn't mention the German losses. However from 22nd June 1941 until 10 September 1941 the division only lost 33 tanks destroyed.

During the fighting at Ostrov most of the Russian tanks (which included some T34's, KV1's and KVII's) were desroyed by Artillerie Regiment 73 firing over open sights (i.e. artillery guns were used as anti-tank weapons).

          Cheers,
          Gary.
