    Koppenwallner

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if you'd be able to assist me here.

I've been trying to find information on a Luftwaffe officer, but now I think he may be a Heer officer. Here's what I have:

    Hptm. Koppenwallner, 26.9.40

I haven't been able to find a Luft officer with this rank/date combo. I did find a Karl Koppenwallner in the Heer that fit. It's an uncommon last name, but I'm wondering if there are any other potential fits?

I'm not a Heer collector and don't have this info. to review.

    Thanks in advance.

    What's the context?

I think Karl Koppenwallner from IR 20 at the outbreak of war is your man an RK and DKiG winner I notice that items from his estate are in the US collecting community.

I see no other officer by that name in the jan 39 or jun 44 Heer ranglisten, certainly no one of that name in the LW 44 or 45 lists

only 6 with that name who died in WWII on the volksbund database and none of them officers.

There's a pic of him here

Dear Simon, Aiceman, and merdock - thanks so much for your assistance. I thought Karl was the correct one, but you never want to jump to conclusions when the person you're looking for turns out to be such a highly decorated solder.

The name and date I indicated in my initial post were from a tailor's label found inside a pair of pants, which were part of a Luftwaffe officer's grouping. The pants were obviously added by a former dealer or collector. I found no officer Koppenwallner in the Luftwaffe (only lower ranks), so it had to be Heer.

Very cool, thanks so much. Good news is always welcome!

            Best regards,

            Jason
