    He was buried on a mass grave with other soldiers. Maybe something was left, or maybe he was stripped of all decorations by the enemy. Who knows...

          A good example of how in many cases the award of decorations can amount to a lottery, chance or favouritism.
          Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

              This recovery looks like it has been done with care and respect...it is all about preserving and learning the history now.

              Agreed that it is good luck that this group found the remains and not the grave robbers who would have mangled it all.

              Interesting story.

                Hi,

                Very interesting thread!
                I had never heard of this very brave and humble soldier before.
                A true rebel too, from whet I have read here; the man must have had strong morals to "go against the flow" of Nazi ideology.
                A true hero to me, many thanks for posting!
