    Help with NARA-Rolls please

    Hello,

According to the NARA-Guide No. 96 avialable on www.Sturmpanzer.com, we can read this :

    Roll 909
Three alphabetically arranged card files for infantry officers through the rank of colonel, giving, name, rank, branch of service, date of rank, date of birth, and lists of promotions, training, and assignments. Item H6/355 continues through roll 925.
    1. Alphabet : Roll 909 to Roll 916 (from Abé to Zyliak)
    2. Alphabet : Roll 917 to Roll 919 (from Abé to Zylka)
    3. Alphabet : Roll 920 to Roll 925 (from Abé to Zychlinski)

My question is why there are three alphabets ? The no. 2 and 3 complete information on no. 1 or it is different alphabets ? For example, one for aktiver, another for the Resreve and for the last Erzängungs-Obersten ?

    Any help is welcome

    Best

    Rudolf,

I know these collections well and there is no known reason why these files are in three different sequences. When collections like this have multiple sequences, the standard NARA response is that the files were originally accessioned into one collection, and as additional information came to NARA from other Allied authorities and were entered into the NARA archival system, it was too problematic to intersperse the new data with the old, so they added another sequence. In this case, three sequences in total.

This is quite a plausible explanation and similar examples exist throughout NARA and other archival systems.

      Hello Mike,

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if in the 1st Alphabet contain Karteikarten for only aktiver Offiziere or for aktiver, Reserve and Ergänzungs-Offiziere ?

I do not, sorry. The film is not labeled in this regard, although it may be possible to tell from its contents.
