    Bau battalion research

    Hi All
Could anybody give me any information on the service history of BAU BATTALION 131, and also BAU ERSATZ BATTALION 28 during 1941-42.
Any information would be much appreciated.

    Cheers
    Graham

        Hi Graham !

There are indeed a large number of sub-branches within the engineers / Pioniere of the Heer :
If you scroll down that link given by grndevil44 a bit further, you'll find a sub-section : Bau-Pioniere
        There is also a link to Bau-Btl. 131 :
        http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...auBtl131-R.htm
Those units had the tasks to work on the construction of roads, emplacements etc ...

During Barbarossa, Bau-Btl. 131 was under 17. Armee at least until early March, 1942 according to this site :
        http://sturmvogel.orbat.com/bau.html
The Lexicon says that in Summer 1942 it was under 1. Pz.Armee.

From Nov. 1941 onward, the personnel consisted mainly of POWs and therefore the unit received
        the designation Bau-Btl.(K) 131 (K = Kriegsgefangene).

Bau-Ersatz-Btl. 28 was located in Metz in 1941-1942. You can find some information here :
        http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...BatBau28-R.htm

        Cheers,
        Archi
