Martin Bormann Dish - Krupp Berndorf

Here is a dish I've had for a while. The "famous" C. Snyder claims this same bowl on his site along with many others once belonged to Martin Bormann. He wants a lot of money for it. He says the eagle is the one Bormann used. I can't find anything on the internet that confirms this claim. Is he correct or is he just making this up?

Heavy Silver Plated Covered Soup Bowl: NSDAP Eagle on side (some dealers attribute this eagle to Martin Bormann), 8.5 cm tall, 15.5 cm wide bowl, single person size, hallmarked Arthur Krupp Berndorf 35 cl.

The same exact bowl MBSS-08 on Snyders site lists for $1499.99

This is the supposed "Bormann Pattern", i have seen them sold several times as "Bormann Pattern". I do not believe there is any fact to back up this story. I have also seen this same type only with a J and a G on each side of the eagle, that is the supposed Josef Goebbels pattern. I believe the reason why these often end up as Bormann or Goebbels or some other big shot is cause people didn't really knew where they came from.

Recently they have showed up on a few dealer sites and auction houses, now as the Schloss Klessheim pattern. Craig Gottlieb recently sold this one on his auction, with some vet information.

Bill Shea also has a few Klessheim pieces for sale, with the same type of eagle.

I'm sure you could bargain with Snyder, and then his price wouldn't be that bad when looking at what the one on the auction sold for

SORRY ....but Like HE said...to say it is a Bormann piece is amusing, and purely speculative at best. Although I could say any piece of early patern AH silver was used by Bormann too,and be just as correct if not more so , as he was Hitlers right hand stoodge, and spent just as much time at his table as any other early party member. Why not call it the roehm pattern then also? It's just a quadruple silver plate nsdap party piece, and could have been used by anybody in a common party meeting or function where refreshments were served , even Adolph could have used these.(but not sure he drank coffee, but took did take a lot of methedrine intraveniously.

I do notice the one CS has for sale doe not have the same oak leaves around the swas at the right bottom but may have been a production faux paux...IMO, utilitarian sets would be for general use by the common party members, and actual 800 silver version items ...for in private entertaining for important members and when of silver ,would be usually personalized, and not made of plated copper.

I feel the item in question is overpriced for what it is. I have seen ash trays with wooden match box holders with the exact same eagle used in many nsdap offices and buildings .

Nothing wrong with wanting to collect nsdap coffee sets , but to me these are nothing special, and were made by the thousands(and low end ).

I also prefer to not patronize CS out of general principal. Now if it was at his estate auction, then maybe I may bid , but wouldnt be anywhere near what he wants , although ,knowing him as long as I have, and personally trying to do deals that are within pricing that is in the real world...don't get in any hurry , as from personal experience I have found many times what he has for sale in general , I could buy the exact same item for much less elsewhere ,as he always seems to want more because he is he, not any viable reason relating to reality, but... you do as you please, buy where you please, but just don't say nobody warned you when you have buyers remorse later down the road. I won't even go to his site any longer , as it seems to jam up the computer just to go and look. Good Luck anyway whatever you decide .

WOW! I feel so lucky as I have a gravy server with this pattern stamped eagle and swastika that I use every Thankgiving, directly from a US WW2 veteran about 30 years ago and now I can claim it was from Martin Bormann; what luck.
Another Mith from the money grabbers. I believe these were just a standard pattern for political schools and hostels, not attirbutable to any individial IMO.
