Finding a German soldier born in Italy

    Hi guys,

I'm seeking advice from Italian members or anyone who has successfully obtained information from Italian authorities. When I'm seeking info about a German soldier born in Germany, I write to his home town registry office (Standesamt). I'm now trying to find the family of a German soldier who was born in Italy in 1919 (Trieste, to be precise). His family moved to Germany at some point before the war, but my only reference point is his home address in Italy.

Any advice? Who should I write to in Trieste?

    Thanks!
    Jason

      Hi Raffaello,

Thanks for the link, very interesting. My Italian is a bit rusty but is this database for Italian soldiers killed during war-time? My guy (a German born in Italy) survived the war, and his name does no appear. Is it possible to obtain information from civilian sources rather than military?

      Thanks again!
      Jason

        You may try here:
        http://www.archivi.beniculturali.it/...p?nome=TRIESTE

It's the website of the Italian State Archives - Trieste.
Sorry, it's in italian and partially in slovenian!
