Help with info on GJ officer - please

    Gentlemen,
I am trying to help a fellow collector find info on a Lt. Sepp Schaferie. He has his officer cap with owner label with this name and rank. The "a" in Schaferie should be umlated. Sorry my "wonderful" Apple won't allow me to do that. Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards,
    Dick

I failed to list his Rgt.

He was assigned to Geb. Rgt. 98
All this information and name comes from label in my friends officer cap.

How sure are you about the name being Schäferie?

is there even such a name in Germany\Austria?

        Good morning, Simon!

Thanks for your reply. I have not seen the cap. i emailed my friend this morning and asked that he verify the name. I will let you know as soon as I hear something. Ok?
        Regards,

Sure thing, if the inscription is handwritten a photo of it would be ideal.

Schäfer, Schäffer or Schäffert but i see no one at all with an ie ending, not on the german war graves database, nor the 44 and 39 rank lists, or high awards lists nor the current German online telefon book.

            Correct name spelling....?

            Hi Simon,
Very sorry for this long delay. I heard from my buddy again on the GJ soldier's name. He says that it is: Schaferle with an umlat above the "a". Thanks for your patience!
            Regards,
            Dick

Sorry Dick but i draw a blank, i find the surname nowhere in my sources, but then again they are incomplete.

That actual surname appears to be very rare, i found a handful of people with it on facebook

                  Dick,

Is it possible to see a picture of the inscription? A fresh set of eyes may do wonders.
