Luftwaffen-Bau-Bataillone 2 / vi were they at Stalingrad

Hi all

Im aware this Luftwaffe Construction Ground Unit was at the battle of Stalingrad but it appears they were not destroyed there. I can only assume they were evacuated before the pocket closed.

Can anyone tell me where they were during the battle or point me in the right direction to get the information. I've been all over the web to no avail.

Hi Darren,

This unit was not encircled at Stalingrad. Based on my experience, this generally means they were not in the Stalingrad area (east of the Don).

And, having just checked it, it seems this battalion did serve at Stalingrad! Here's a direct quote:

Luftwaffen-Bau-Bataillon 2./VI
Formed in Winter 41/42 with 3 companies. Served at Stalingrad and Don. Disbanded 1943.
