    Kampfgeschwader 77

    Hi Does any one have or know where I can find the crew lists that were shot down
    5th May 1941 over England that were flying with this squadron.

      Do you have a name, rank, number of the staffel or only the date?

      If you can be more specific it likley can be pinned down.

        Having a bit more time I took a look and was able to find loss listings for 5 May 41.

        Two (2) planes were lost to KG77 on this night raid they were;

        Stab II/KG77 Junkers Ju88A-5 (6027) Suffered engine failure and feul shortage on a sortie to Belfast. Attempted a forced landing at Waxham, Norfolk 4:12am but hit sand dune. Uffz. J. Simon KIA, Lt. K. Obenhack, Gefr. H. Rose and uffz. W. von Mohrendorf taken prisoner. Aircraft 3Z+EC wrecked.

        6/KG77 Junkers Ju88A-5 (7117) Landed on sea off Bridlington, Yorkshire 00:15am following engine failure. Oblt. M. Baumann, Fw W. Hopfer and Oberfw K. Auernhammer KIA. Oberfw E. Schieting rescused by a passing ship and captured. Aircraft 3Z+FP sank in sea.

          Thanks for the info in the Pilots soldbuch he went into captivity on the 5th May

          from further information he was shot down by pilot of 25 Sqn

            here is what I have

            Lt Joachim Wreschnick 3/KG77. JU88 A-5 4269 3+CL

            Crashed on Wash on Welleny after tangle with 25 SQN.

              Ah excellent!

              OK let me look a bit further it appears as though he may have gone down late in the evening of the 4th which would explain his not being listed on 5 May loss returns.

                Here is your information:

                Ju88 suffered engine failure and made a forced landing at Welney Wash, near Downham Market, Norfolk 4:00am. Lt. J. Wreschnick, Uffz. F. Podlech, Uffz. R. Siekmann and gefr. H. Pix all taken prisoner.
