Help with a soldiers unit and history.

    I just recently picked up a small grouping to a Panzer-Pionier officer that was KIA in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on">Russia</ST1</st1:country-region>.
His name is Leutnant Heinz Kaiser, I believe killed on 6. Juli 1941 at age 24. We was awarded the EKII, EKI, PAB.
I would like help trying to find out what unit he was with or any other information.
    Thank you Steve

The unit should be on the grave marker

Yes, I realize that, but I cannot make it out, too blurry.

            Thanks for the help!

Just received this from a friend, maybe the correct person? Would seem so!

The history of the 1. Pz. Div. (p. 205) mentions a Ltn Kaiser (no first name) of the 1/PPB 37 being fatally wounded on 6 July 41. Not sure if he’s your man but the same last name and correct date of death would seem to indicate so.<O></O>

Heinrich Kaiser. (listed by his full first name)

"Nach den uns vorliegenden Informationen befindet sich sein Grab derzeit noch an folgendem Ort: Rezekne - Lettland"

His grave location is in Rezekne, Lettland (Rēzekne, Latvia). The 1Pz.Div. was in the area in July 1941.

                    Hi Steve,

I have the following in my records:
Kaiser, Leutnant d.R. Heinrich, born 31.05.1917, Pi.Btl.37, died 06.07.1941 Lettland.

So your friend is definitely correct.

                    Jason

Thank you Naxos and Jason for all the help. I will print this off and put it with the grouping for the future in case someone can use it.
                      WOW thanks again.
