hello, i recently acquired a named medal bar for a John Henry Frederic von Schroeder. i would like to know if i can do any further research and if possible where can i do it?

If the soldier was KIA, the volksbund is a good place to start. The main place where you can get military records is the DD WASt but they usually only give that to immediate family members. You also could contact the German Red Cross, they may have info if he was a POW. Birth date is a must for most reasearch.
