    Anti-Partisan units question

I have a question about the units who fought against partisans. My Grandpa told me that his Uncle served in a Wehrmacht unit that was an anti-partisan unit on the Eastern front. The way he talks about it is that, that is all his unit did. His units only purpose was to fight partisans. Now my question is, did they organize units this way, that curtain units were designated anti-partisan units and only fought against partisans? The unit never seeing the “front” line. Or did take units and give then anti-partisan duty for a time and then later give them a different duty like serving on the front lines? If you guys can help clear this up for me that would be awesome.

Units were assigned to purely rear area security duties which included anti-partisan actions. Regular units were also used and as the war progressed these anti-partisan units could find themselves on the frontlines.

    Do you know his unit?
