    How were Flak units organised

Hi everyone. I have a particular interest in black painted helmets.

By which I mean M35, M40 and M42 helmets, not civic M34 helmets nor black SS parade helmets. (see pictures below)

Often these helmets are described as Flak helmets as in the past a few have been researched to Flak units. However there are many other helmets named to members of Flak units that are not painted black. So I wanted to look at the flak unit connection in a bit more detail.

My question is, can anyone point me in the direction of any information that would tell me if, some flak units came under civil authority (ie units set up to defend cities) and therefore may have painted their helmets black as other civic helmets were black painted?

    Cheers

Never heard that a Flak unit came under civil authority - always Luftwaffe.

Thanks, I think that the explanation for black helmets lies more in a kind of (not very effective ) night time camoflauge but just wanted to check out some other ideas.
Thanks again for taking time to reply.

Flak didn't always come under the LW, the Heere, SS and KM flak for example.

the RAD also had some flak as did i think a few factories.
