    Oberstleutnant Janke

Good evening guys. I just had a really nice M42 Heer helmet show up today that is named to an Oberstleutnant Janke, Feldpost 10076 B. I would appreciate some helmet in trying to find out more about this fellow.

I found an Oberstleutnant Johannes Janke that was a member of the 69th Infantry Division, but not sure if this would be a match. As you know oberstleutnant rank is pretty high up the chain of command (Lt. Col) so I am hopeful to learn more.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I also found a Knights Cross winner from the 159th Grenadier Rgmt named Hans Janke that also held the rank of Oberstleutnant.

Sorry guys. The rank is actually Oberleutnant. So it's Oberleutnant Janke.

The abbreviation in the inner skirt of the helmet reads: Obltn.

        Dave,

Here is some info on the feldpost number.

        10076 B
        14.10.1943 Stab und 1. Batterie schwere Stellungs-Werfer-Abteilung 103

        17.1.1944 Stab III und 7. Batterie Stellungs-Werfer-Regiment 101

Schwere Stellungs-Werfer-Abteilung 103 was combined with two other schwere Stellungs-Werfer-Abteilungs in the Cherbourg area to form Stellungs-Werfer-Regiment 101. I believe the regiment was destroyed in the Cherbourg/Normandie area sometime between June and August 1944.

Here are a couple of links, but there should be other info on these units if you do a search on the internet.

Thanks Jared. Can you suggest a good way to find out if Obltn. Janke served in this Unit 103 Abteilung? I have trouble with Lexicon due to it being in German and so far searches have not yielded much.
