Looking for information of DKiG Holders who served with the 2nd Panzer Regiment??????

    Hi Guys,

Recently I bought a wonderful tunic of an Oberstleutnant with a DKiG in cloth on it. According to the pink waffenfarbe and the number 2 on the shoulderboards, it looks like my guy served in Panzerregiment no 2 at some point in time.

Can anyone provide any names (and if possible pics) of officers serving at any time during the war with Panzer Regiment 2 (part of the 1st Pz Div up to late 1940 and after which 16th Pz Div till the very end) who received the DKiG?

If you have any information on their final rank (should at least be Oberstleutnant for it to match the tunic) - that would be fantastic. If not, any names of DKiG holders serving with PzR 2 to start with would be great. Thanks for all the help. Pics of the tunic will be posted later as my wife is out for the weekend and took the camera along.

    Cheers, W

Here is a list of DKiG winners for 16 Pz. Div...
    http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=9199
None of those listed with the rank of Oberstleutnant were with the Pz. Rgt with the holders at that rank being the Division Ia, Art.Rgt 16 & Schutzen Rgt 64. There is always a chance he won it with another unit and was then transferred into 16 Pz. Division at a later point.

If he transferred over from 1 Pz.Div to 16 Pz.Div with Pz.Rgt 2 then he wouldn't of won it with the former division as the award wasn't brought into service until late 1941.

      Hucks, very much appreciated! THANKS!

Of your list, the following German Cross in Gold Holders of 16. Panzer-Division could in theory have achieved the rank of Oberstleutnant at the end of the war. Does anyone know the end of the war ranks of the following officers (the date mentioned is the date of being awarded the DKiG and the rank which was held at that moment)?:

      Cramon von, Manfred, 25.01.1943, Hauptmann, II./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Falkenhausen von, Ernst-Herbert, 12.09.1944, Hauptmann d.R., 8./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

Freytag von Loringhoven, Bernd, 23.01.1943, Hauptmann, 2./Pz.Rgt 2
      ?

      Friedrich, Willi, 27.10.1942, Oberleutnant, II./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Gesch, Bruno, 06.11.1942, Oberleutnant, 10./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Harberts, Wolfgang, 06.11.1942, Leutnant, 4./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Krajewski, Heinrich, 01.12.1941, Hauptmann, 4./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Kuckein, Harry, 19.04.1942, Oberleutnant, Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Langer, Lothar, 20.03.1942, Oberleutnant, 5./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Ledebur Graf, Franz, 27.10.1942, Leutnant, I./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Müller, Claus, 01.12.1941, Oberleutnant, 6./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Otto, Werner, 02.07.1942, Hauptmann, I./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Scheidemann, Friedrich-Wilhelm, 13.02.1944, Hauptmann, II./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      Warmbold, Hans-Joachim, 06.11.1942, Hauptmann, III./Pz.Rgt. 2
      ?

      All help very much appreciated!!!!!!!

With a rank as high as Oberstleutnant it is reasonable to assume he would be in command of the Regiment, or at least served in a high capacity within the division, at the end of the war. These are the commanders of Pz.Rgt 2 as listed on Lexikon...

Oberst Heinrich von Prittwitz und Gaffron Aufstellung - 10. November 1938
        Oberstleutnant Karl Keltsch 10. November 1938 -
Oberstleutnant Hero Breusing 1. März 1940
Oberstleutnant Rudolf Sieckenius 1. Mai 1941

        Oberst Graf Schimmelpfennig Dezember 1942
        Oberst Becker 15.März 1943
Oberst Baron von Holtey 1.April 1943
        Oberstleutnant Stenkhoff, 23.September 1943
        Oberst Sollin ? - 4.Dezember 1943
        Major Collin 4.Dezember 1943
        Major von Uslar-Gleichen, 1.Juli 1944
Oberstleutnant Walter Kirnbauer Juli 1944, mstFb
        Major von Schönfeld Dezember 1944
        Major Gerke Januar 1945
        Major Monfort Februar 1945
        Major Lippold ? - 1.April 1945
Oberstleutnant Ferdinand Edler von der Planitz 1.April 1945
        Major Gehrke, April 1945

It may be of no use checking the list of Pz.Rgt 2 DKiG winners as he may well of won it while with a completely different unit before being transferred in to Pz.Rgt 2 so he wouldn't appear in that list.

From the list above, Oberstleutnant Ferdinand Edler von der Planitz commanded the Regiment on 1st April 1945 and in the Ordenstrager there is an Edler von Planitz as having won the DKiG in June 1942 while with Pz.Jager Abt 161 (pink waffenfrabe) but his first name was Max. None of the other Oberstleutnants listed above, post June 1941, are listed in the Ordenstrager as having won the DKiG. Maybe it is for an Oberstleutnant who had a new one made when he was promoted to Oberst which while I would expect him to just replace the insignia is just one possibility.

There was an Oberstleutnant Heinrich Becker of Pz.Jager.Abt 2 who won the DKiG (as an Oberstleutnant) on 22nd Nov 1941.

            Hi Hucks,

Thanks again! I double checked your second list and you are right no DKiG winners among them.

Anyone know of a one eyed DKiG winner that served as an officer in Pz Reg 2? Inside one of the breast pockets of the tunic was an eye patch.

Help therefore still needed and very much appreciated!

            Cheers, W
