    Otto Carius

I am trying to get Herr Carius's address to send him a letter. Can anybody assist me. I have the address for the Pharmacy but according to their website, they ask that no correspondence be sent there.

    Thank you

I do know that he lives above his Pharmacy, I´ve been there, but the exact address I don´t know.

Most elderly german vets keep their addresses of their domiciles private to all inquiry , except people they already know(friends or family)as the war is over, and want to forget their big mistake, and loss of their personal friends. Unless you know someone who knows him, and sends a letter of introduction, and knows you well enough to trust you won't be a pest to just bug the man , or inquire to want to buy his war souvenirs, (as many have little left from the war anyway), i would say it may be easier to go physicly to germany, and skip trace him , and then possibly run into him in a park or on the street , they still may not give you the time of day, and may call the law on you , as some do not wish to discuss the war any longer, and actually many do not trust ANY americans even this long after the war without correct protocall . SO...Id say... Unless you are writing a book, and have a specific question about some aspect of his combat service , and have the questions sent via mail through a confidential way just in writing and can prove the fact by a previous publication history like mark yerger they still may not respond, even if you have items that belonged to them from the war. Some veterans , as all people get dimenetia, and alzheimers, or just don't always recall , even if you could reach him, german soldiers are wary of trusting strangers , and have others who actually watch out for the old soldiers ....he would be in at least his mid eighties anyway. I have a RK mappe owned by a luft general, and even when he was alive in the mid 70's i still never contacted him out of respect for his privacy.(initials jK) GOOD LUCK in your quest anyway , don't give up if you don't want to, but i'd say go to germany in person .
