    Kiel-Hassee staff aboard Wilhelm Gustloff

In researching FP of an San.Maat on the Kiel-Hassee staff in late 12.44, and who subsequently went down on the Gustloff, I'm wondering the how and why of Kiel-Hassee staff ending up aboard. Was a contingent ordered up to Gotenhafen in January?

Hi, yes, the Marine Lazarett at Kiel-Hassee. I don't know if it still exists. This boy, Max Schollerer, had earlier also been with the Marine Lazarett at Kiel-Wik in 1943, which I believe still stands. He is carried on the Gustloff 2.ULD loss rolls.

This is his entry in the Volksbund list:

Max Schollerer ist als gefallener Angehöriger der Marine namentlich entweder in dem U-Boot-Ehrenmal Möltenort bei Kiel an einer der Wandtafeln oder im Marineehrenmal in Laboe in einem dort ausliegenden Gedenkbuch verzeichnet.

            Nachname:Schollerer
            Vorname:Max
            Dienstgrad:Maat
            Geburtsdatum:06.09.1923
            Todes-/Vermisstendatum:30.01.1945

Yes, Gerdan, that is him, so the mystery is how and why he ended up in Gotenhafen in January under the 2.ULD, and whether others from Kiel did, as well. Or perhaps the Kiel Marinelazaretts were considered to be serving with 2.ULD. His actual rating was San.Maat.
