" 8/Freiwillige estnische Sicherheits Abteilung 182 "and specially if they joined the 3rd SS Totenkopf Division deeply involved in Demjansk area in 1942.

During the winter '41-'42 it was an Heerestruppe under control of 18 Armee with the Hgr. Nord.
On october 23, 1942 it became Ost-Btl. 659 (Estn.), and on december 1943 Estnische-Bataillon 659. From April 1944 this bataillon was transferred to the Waffen SS as I bataillon of SS 47 Grenadier Regiment of the SS 20 Waffen Grenadier Division.

I guess now to understand if it would be correct that a soldier fallen in May 1942, belonged to this unit with the rank of Gruppenfuhrer according to VB data, was under the Waffen SS....
