Formation of SS-Panzer-Regiment 2 "Das Reich"

    Hello,

Im looking for information concerning the formation of the SS-Pz-Rgt 2 "Das Reich", as I have understood it the basic outline is that it was formed in the middle of 1942 and was sent to the eastern front in early 1943, but I would need more precise dates on when the formation begun and when they were sent to the front, if not the dates of the days are avaible, atleast the months when this occured?

Also, was any part of the SS-Pz.Rgt 2 placed at the Wildflecken training grounds during its formation?

Hi Lasse, according to "The German Order Of Battle, Waffen SS & Other Units by Nafziger" it was formed 11th September 1942 in France.

According to "Das Reich, Waffen SS Armoured Elite by Michael Sharpe & Brian L Davis" it was sent to Russia 9th January 1943.

Cant find any info on Wildflecken, but will keep looking.

    Cheers
    Ian

      Thank you!

I know that the SS-Pz.Abt 5 "Wiking" was at Wildflecken, but Im looking for a Panzer-Regiment, or atleast parts of a panzer-regiment who where there until january 1943. (Pz.Abt 5 "Wiking" was sent to the front in july, and was obviously not a Pz.Rgt)

I am researching a swedish SS-veteran who claims to have being sent to a Panzerregiment in Wildflecken during april 1942, and sent to the eastern front outside of Kharkow in January 1943. Could you also please look if SS-Pz-Rgt 1 "LSSAH" was at Wildflecken, when it was created and when it was sent to the front?

        Hi Lasse,

SS Division LSSAH formed 9th May 1941
1st SS Panzergrenadier Division LSSAH renamed 24th November 1942
1st Panzer Division LSSAH renamed 22nd October 1943

Das Reich left Russia on the 1st June 1942 to rest and refit and arrived in Germany (doesn`t state where) on the 10th June

LSSAH left Russia in June also but was sent to France.

All info courtesy of Nafziger and Michael Sharpe & Brian L Davis publications

        Cheers

          Hello,

That information I am quite aware about, I was mainly thinking about the Panzer-Regiment of the LSSAH. Thanks anyway

          Best regards,
          Lars

For "Das Reich" Pz Rgt formation and composition see "Knights of Steel" volume 1 and "German Cross in Gold Holders of the SS and Police" volume 1.

Nafziger has considerable errors and lack of detail.

For the price of the book, you can save hours of laborious searching (already done), and spinning wheels looking for information willie nilly, as it will also answer many many other questions you haven't even thought of yet , most certainly to come up .. in future inquiries you may have.
