    Marineartillerie Abteilung 520

    Hello all

I have just bought a soldbuch, the owner was in the MAA 520.

I'm looking for any information concerning this unit.

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards

    Hi Eric,

the following is taken from Die Deutsche Kriegsmarine 1939-1945.

Formed February 1941 in Pillau. Assemby Area in Plovdiv (Bulgaria). Arrived in Crete in July 1941 and was stationed at Kalami. From October 1944 immediately subordinated to the Commandant of Feste Platz Crete.

    Commanders:

    Kptlt. M.A. Tröndle: Feb - Nov 1941
K.Kapt. Eugen Fey (Acting): Oct - Dec 1941
    K.Kapt. Oels: Dec 1941 - Feb 1943
    F.Kapt. John Voelsch: Feb 1943 - Feb 1944
    K.Kapt. Wrede (Acting): Nov 1943 - Jun 1944
    K.Kapt. M.A. Gustav Raden (Acting): Jun - Sep 1944
    K.Kapt. M.A. Ebbinghaus: Mar 1944 - End

Presumably the acting Commanding officers are shown with overlapping dates because they were commanding during the official tenure of the official commanders.

    Regards
    Glenn

Can not add much more than what Glenn has already said, however the Feldpost numbers for the unit were:

        07982
5-7 Batterie, Marine Artillerie Abteilung 520

        46014
Stab und 1-2 Batterie, Marine Artillerie Abteilung 520

        46789
        1 Batterie, Marine Artillerie Abteilung 520, cancelled and became Fp.Nr. 46014 A

        47372
        2 Batterie, Marine Artillerie Abteilung 520, cancelled and became Fp.Nr. 46014 B

        68034
27.12.1944 Stab, 6-12 und Alarm Batterie, Marine Artillerie Abteilung 520

        According to Tessin:

        Marine-Artillerie-Abteilung 520
Formed February 1941 in Pillau for transfer to Greece; Assembled in Bulgaria (Plovdiv); July 1941 transferred to Crete with 2 Companies, lastly with 1-7 Battery; December 1944 given a new Fp. Nr. (Stab und 6.-12.
        Batterie) in Crete.

Under: Seekommandant Kreta; December 1944 Festung Kreta

There were no holders of high awards from that unit...such as Ritterkreuz, Deutsches Kreuz and Ehrentafelspange.

        /Ian

          Ian,

Could I trouble you to look up and list those Kust art. in Denmark, My Grandfather was there at Aarhus and I have no idea what units where posted at this town. He then was a prisoner for several years in Denmark before coming back to Germany to his wife and seven children.
          Regards,
          Robert
