Infanterie Regiment 379 in Normandy ???

I research some informations about the Hauptmann Werner Thiele who was killed in Normandy (Cotentin) on 13th 1944, he is buried at Orglandes, I contacted the WAST and apparently the Hauptmann Thiele commanded the 12 Company of the Infantery Regiment 379 but this regiment wasn’t in Normandy in summer 1944… Do you know how to find the regiment and the battalion of Hauptmann Werner?

Infanterie-Regiment 379 was re-named to Grenadier-Regiment 379 on 15. Oktober 1942.
It was part of the 169. Infanterie-Division.
But this Division was in Finnland, Norwegen during 1944.

The unit must be wrong!

Is there a chance that the 379 was one of his earlier units? Maybe his initial unit, like the one printed on his dogtag?

III./IR 379 was used to form part of IR 583 in late 1940. Part of the 319 ID which was stationed on the Channel Islands. I think this could be your link.
