    Uffz EDUARD GRAF - DKiG

    Hi all,
    I am not that up to speed with in depth Luftwaffe info, as I mainly collect ground combat badges and have a few vehicles including a 1941 BMW R12.
    I am looking for any information on the following NCO.
    Uffz EDUARD GRAF , I have a picture of him during training in 1942 and I think the plane is a He72 Kadett.

    http://img1.imagilive.com/0111/Graf_2.jpg

    The info I have is as follows;

    In May 1943 he gained an EK2 with 5./Stuka 2.
    August 1943 he got his EK1 with Luftflotte 4
    December 1943 with X/STORKAMPFSTAFFEL/LUFT-FL4 was awarded the DKiG.

    I have a feeling but no confirmation that he became a casualty in 1944 some time, possibly as a Feldwebel?
    Is there anyone out there who can help with more information please ?

    Thanks, Richard

      I have pieced together some information;
      Eduard Graf was with the following unit;

      Sturzkampfgeschwader 2 "Immelmann" (dive Bomber Squadron) - Gruppe II
      After various guises, was reformed 1.42 in Neukuhren with:

      Stab II./St.G.2 new
      4./St.G.2 new
      5./St.G.2 new (Eduard Graf)
      6./St.G.2 new

      and was in the following locations around the time of Eduard Graf's award of the EKII. (5.43)
      2.43 - 4.43 Stalino Ju 87D
      4.43 - 5.43 Kertsch IV Ju 87D (Stuka)
      5.43 - 7.43 Charkow-Ost Ju 87D

      If Graf was still with this unit when awarded the EKI theywould have been in the following area;
      31.7.43 - 10.43 Karatchew Ju 87D (Stuka)

      The DKiG ceremony date is listed as 12.12.43 and the unit being x/storkampfstaffeln/luftflotte 4, but by that date the storkampfstaffeln 4 had been replaced by the Nachtschlachtgruppe 4, and besides there was no 10th staffel of the storkampfstaffeln 4. I suspect that a 10th staffel existed with the Nachtschlachtgruppe 4 as they were flying so many variants of planes (listed as Fw 58, Fw 189, He 46, Ar 66, Go 145, Hs 126, Si 204, W.34, Ju 87 and Do 17)

      There are 6 Eduard Graf's on the Grabensuche, only 1 that fits closely.

      In Memory of Eduard Graf
      Eduard Graf rests on the military cemetery in Merano, Italy.
      Endgrablage: grave 465

      Name: Graff
      First name: Eduard
      Grade: Sergeant (Feldwebel)
      Date of Birth: 11.01.1922
      Todes-/Vermissten date: 22.04.1945

      the only thing that does not fit entirely is that Nachtschlachtgruppe 4 finished its days in Austria, so if this is our man then why would he end up in an Italien cemetry? But in an earlier listing ('Kracker Luftwaffe Pilot Archive') there was a mention of FW190 being one of the aircraft. This was not a plane used for the harassment bombing, so my summise is that Eduard Graf transferred late to a fighter unit and possibly fell over north italy ?? (and not necessarity as a flyer ??)

      Any comments or further info appreciated.

        One further question, on this web site there is info on Eduard Graf, but where did this info come from and where did they get the picture ??

          Thanks to Andrew Straube from Deathcards.com I can now confirm that the Eduard Graf in the Marano cemetry is indeed the correct Eduard Graf of this thread.....
