Test Pilots of Post WWII Germany

    Gentleman,

I know the U.S. had World War II veteran pilots served as test pilots in the post-war military aviation. We know Marion E. Carl, Charles E. Yerger, etc. What I want to know is that do you know any names of WWII Luftwaffe pilots that went on to serve the Bundeswehr as test pilots of aviation.

    Sincerely,

    Edward L. Hsiao

I was a good friend with Obst Johannes Wiesse (Grandfather/grandson)
Winner of the RK/oaks mainly from "kills" in the Eastern Front.
He flew with the "new Airforce" in Germany, often referred to as the "Father of
the Modern German Airforce"Involved with the introduction of the Sabre which caused great loss among trainee Pilots.Lectured at the Airforce Academy on
aerial tactics in combat.I have several personal photos of him in Russia.Unfortunately his awards went to the Luft Bomber Museum at Celle.
But I still have the invite from his sister and brother in law to his funeral a few
years back.A beautifull man.Tough with a big soft heart whom I saw cry after
a drink or two about the "many young pilots I sent to their death on missions
when I knew they would not return".He was known to the Russians as "The Kubanski Lion"Flew Focke Wulfe.

Erich Alfred "Bubi" Hartmann (352 victories) flew "Starfighters" for the Bundesluftwaffe after the war, but I dont think as a test pilot .

      Cheers

        Franz Gapp

        Gentlemen,

Franz Gapp, Knight's Cross winner of the Luftwaffe, had flown many types of planes while serving with the Bundesluftwaffe as a test pilot. During WWII, Gapp was a bomber ace and Me-262 jet fighter ace. I forgot what source that I got it from.

I'm sure the Bundesluftwaffe had plenty of experimental and reseach planes that needed to be flown and tested by veterans of the Luftwaffe in the late 1950's and much of the 1960's.
