    Reserve Polizei Battalion 102

I am trying to research a photo album and looking to find more information on Reserve Polizei Battalion 102.

There's a photo of graves of Res. Pol. Btn. 102 which is what I am basing the ID on (also the sellers description).

Their path appears to match some of the scraps of information I can find on the web :

    http://www1.uni-hamburg.de/rz3a035//police101.html
    http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...spolizei-R.htm
    http://www.ordnungspolizei.org/index...mid=55&lang=en

Firstly - Can anyone first confirm that 'Reserve Polizei Battalion 102' is the same as 'Polizei Battalion 102' ? Feel stupid asking that but need to confirm.

This may help determine when they were formed and their path through the war if possible.

    The album locations include :

Zirklach (DE NAME) - Cerklje na Gorenjskem - Slovenia
    1942 Stare meduschi?
    Oranienbaum
    1942 Peterhof (known as Petrodvorets),
TSARSKOE SELO (PUSHKIN)CATHERINE PALACE (with spanish troops),
    1942 Leningrad
    Wolchow,
    1942 Pelleja channolowo
    Krasnoje Sel.... (unknown spelling)
    Chemmo lowo,
    (Road sign for)
    Krasnogwardeisk
    Krasnoje- Selo
    Petersburg
    Djetskoje- Selo

Also mention of St Gorki & kretschno & Alexandrowka (Ukraine) & Newel.
    Riga 1944

    Licence plates include

    Pol4829
    POL32624
    POL1560

    Grave :
    Grand Emil
    3. Res. Pol. Btl. 102

Any information or pointers on where to find more is appreciated.

It only has a small paragraph in Combat Operations of The German Ordnungspolizei by Rolf Michaelis...

Created at the end of September 1939 in Poland through the renaming of Pol.Btl II/2. In April 1941, after being employed in the Lubartow (approx 25km N of Lublin) - Kasnik (approx 50km SW of Lublin) area, the battalion was attached to the commander of Ordnungspolizei in Hamburg for reorganisation. On 10th March 1942 Reserve-Polizei-Bataillon 102 reinforced Polizei-Kampfgruppe 'Jeckeln' in front of Leningrad, and there in July was renamed II/Polizei-Regiment 16. (Pg 44)

There is also a brief mention of Pol.Btl 102 in Hitler's Police Battalions by Edward B Westermann which just consists of a few lines taken from a Pol.Btl 102 situation report evaluating the Polish Jews in 1939.

Thanks a lot for that. That is one of the books that's mentioned in one of the links, didn't realise it was just a couple of lines though !

Can anyone confirm 'Reserve Polizei Btn 102' is the same as 'Polizei Btn 102' ?

Basically, yes it is. The difference between a Polizei.Btl and a Reserve-Polizei.Btl is the personnel who were assigned to them. Battalions primarily made up of active police officers were classed as Polizei Btl's while those Battlions primarily made up of reserve personnel were classified as Reserve-Polizei Btl's. Sometimes the change was due to a reorganisation when more reserve officers were brought into the unit while the active ones were released.

Can anyone confirm the spelling here ?

It looks like 'Stare Meduschi' but I can find no other reference to that anywhere else (I got the Oranienbaum Kessel - Oranienbaum Cauldron part).

The 2nd grave from right I found in the Volksbund list:

                        Nachname: Lattner
                        Vorname: John
                        Dienstgrad: Polizei-Wachtmeister
                        Geburtsdatum: 03.04.1903
                        Geburtsort: Anklam
                        Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 20.11.1942
                        Todes-/Vermisstenort: Duderhof Ost Leningrad
