The name I read "Nieper", Hauptmann".

I found a Major Nieper in Oct 1937 as Major with the Art. Rgt. 74. But this is not LW.

I found him also with Pz. Art. Rgt. 74

In WW1 there was a Oberstleutnant Nieper with the Pionier-Batallion Nr. 22.

An Alexander Nieper in 1922 published a report "Von der Ballon- zur Flugabwehrkanone" in Deutsches Soldatenjahrbuch 1971

There was an Alexander Nieper, promoted to Oberst 1.11.1941 (i guess the same Nieper Gerdan mentions from 1922). This is from the 1 May 44 rangliste.

He ended up as commander of the 29 Flak Division in Norway.

You'll find an example of his signature in this thread of mine

given this mans rank in 35 and the absence of other luftwaffe officers with this name i'd say this is almost certainly your man.

Maybe I am off track here with this dagger. It is a soft scabbard type and has smaller fittings and, with the date used, could it be a DLV Leader instead of a Luftwaffe??

          Luft or DLV

Although it doesn't have the lower fitting and length, the dates could go either way
