    Walter Otto Heinrich LW Flak

Walter Otto Heinrich was my Opa and died 1945 from wounds received. I know very little as my Oma would not talk of the war. She lived in Berlin throughout and never re-married. She passed away last year so all family links are now gone.
I have some items from my Oma such as Opa's tunic (OberFeldwebel), photo album and some papers. I have been to Wast but they only had his medical record.
I would now like to post some photos and ask for any info on locations, unit (23 Flak Regt???) and if anyone knows of other members of this unit?
I would truely love to come across his soldbuch one day on the estand, what would be the chances of that????
Anyway, Please have a look and assist me where possible.

    Mic...

Opa started as a Driver and worked his way up to Transport Administrator, he was a career soldier and enlisted 1935ish so Oma tells me?

Opa is the one getting his cigarette lit, I would like to know where this is? Does anyone recognise the building in the background?

I have other photos that I have not yet scanned, however most show him wearing his OS cap. I have no idea as to where he served or the history behind his unit all I have to go on is the 23 on his shoulder board, is this 23 Flak Regt and how do I research such a unit?

It could also be luftnachrichten regiment 23.

If it's flak rgt 23, the question is if it's the stab, I or II abteilung. Flak regiments didn't operate as regiments.

Thanks Simon, I have looked at this link a few times before but don't understand where to go? What does the #23 on his shoulder board signify? What is a luftnachrichten regiment? Can you simplify it a bit for me. Opa wore the red waffenfarb for flak and alot of his photos show 88s and associated equipment.

                Thanks, Mic

Not sure he was in Flak unit, as we can see the dark color on collar patches, in particulary when he was Unteroffizier. But if you have his tunic, you have probably the answer...

Right, well if you have his tunic and the tab colour is red then he was flak. Luftnachrichten is signals\communications.

here's the page for Flak Rgt.23

                    http://www.ww2.dk/ground/flak/flargt23.html

As you can see the various elements operated separately the 23 indicated which regiment he served with.
