Grenadier Regt 6 - area of operations 41-45

    Hi,
I have just aquired a set of award documents to a Sanitate Unteroffizer in GR6:

    EK2 9/GR6 9th Oct 1941
    Ost medal 2/GR6 15th Aug 42
    Black wound 3/GR6 16th Oct 1944
    Infantry assault, silver 2/GR6 28th April 1942

Can anybody help me out with some information as to which division this unit was in and where it fought during the period 1941-45?

    Cheers,
    Rick

      Hello Rick,

Just something that caught my eye... the E.K.2 award... If it is a award document does it really show the designation 9./GR.6?

Grenadier Rgt. In 1941... Would be interesting to see the signature on this
document to see whether it was maybe issued retrospectively.

I collect LSSAH mainly, but my Grandpa was an Uffz with th e Stab of IR/GR 6
from 1939 until the beg. of 1945. I have just begun collecting 30.I.D. this year,
          little by little.

I'll be looking forward to the scan.

                      Thanks for posting these!

Had a quick look over the Blackberry. Look all fine to me.

The EK2 doc mentiones J.R. 6, which is common for 'Infanterie Regiment 6.'

As I said, I'm only starting to collect the 30.I.D. and I.R.6 my Opa served
with from 1939 to 1945, so I don't have all the unit commanders down yet, but
I will check with the Division History and identify the docs' signatures.

                      Reverting.

                      Cheers,
                      Markus

                        Nice little group, Rick ..

Markus, I too would like to know the name of the Oberleutnant who signed the Eastern Front medal document. I had a quick look this afternoon but couldn't find a name. The stamp says 5. Kompanie, while the recipient served in the 2. Kompanie ... Hopefully you'll have better luck than me

                        Cheers,
                        Laurens

                          Hi Rick,

I believe the signature on the IAB is Oberst Georg Koßmala. Ritterkreuz (13. März 1942) Eichenlaub (26. März 1944). He was also KIA in 1945.

The Ostmedal looks like it could be Sipp. Dunno if that helps...
