Help ID Shootdown

Is there any way to ID this from the US side? I have this info from a German record:

Thunderbolt shot down by 1/Leichtflakabt 838 on 18 Sep 44 at 17:28

The 56th fighter group, were flying a ground attack mission against flak emplacements on the 18th September 1944, around 16 planes were lost, mainly from air combat I think. I'll have a dig around for you


The misson took place in Oosterhout, Holland

Have you checked the MACR reports? It would have more detailed info on the pilot, A/C number, summary of what happened etc.

Good job on getting the MACR report.

These reports are avaialble for most USAAF/USAF planes which crashed thru accident or being shot down.
