    SS-Sanitäts-Abteilung question…. 2nd SS “Deutschland”

I’m trying to gather any information on the medical unit that was attached to 2./Kp. "Deutschland" Rgt..

The II.SS-Panzerkorps had SS-Sanitäts-Abteilung 102 attached to it, this much I know. However, this was at Corps level, not at Regimental level. Can anyone help me out on any information on this? Books, websites or ??? Anything would help!! I am stumped!!

No medical unit belonged to or was attached to a company. Das Reich had its medical battalion, SS-Sanitäts abteilung 2 and that was the medical unit of the division. Regiments and battalions had their medical officers and a number of medical staff but they were not a unit in themselves. What you might get however is a small detachment from the sanitäts abteilung operating with a regiment.

The medical element of the Division started as the Sanitätsdienste and didn't become SS-Sanitäts Abteilung 2 until 1942 when the Division became a Panzer Grenadier Division. Its composition and officers changed multiple times, the unit title also period spelled Sanitätsabteilung.

Possibly you're looking at an element of the medical unit during the period when the Division was titled "Deutschland" (12/3/1940 to 1/27/1941) such as 2.San.Kp/Deutschland.

In September 1940 the I. Bataillon (encompassing the 2.Kompanie) medical officers were:

Hauptsturmführer Dr. Paul Kürschner (Bataillonsarzt or IVb)
      Untersturmführer Dr. Gerhard Bumke (Hilfsarzt)

Below is the medical detachment at that time, commanded by the Divisionsarzt (IVb, Oberführer Friedrich Karl Dermietzel), and one of several complete listings in volumes 1 and 2 of "German Cross in Gold Holders of the SS and Police" that covers "Das Reich."
