Hi Rose - there is a pinned thread in the Paper section. It explains the use of Feldpostnummern and indicates it is best to provide a date if possible because they were sometimes used by more than one unit.

From 13.11.1943 FP Nr. 35858 belonged to Stab u. 1.-4. Kompanie Bataillon D XIII.

Bataillon D XIII

Feldpostnummer 35858
vermißt: 52, VII./44, I.-III./45 Dänemark, Striegau, Liegnitz, Breslau.

Are there any other entries in the Soldbuch for the same time? Also, what was his previous units?

From what I can find it was a convalescent unit:

Grenadier-Regiment D 1103

Formed 20.5.1944 in Denmark as Genesenden-Regimentsstab for Battalions:

D IV Hilleröd
D XI Helsingör
D XIII Hornbaek

Stab lastly in Kopenhagen; 7.5.1945 formed Grenadier Regiment 594 of Division Seeland (328).


Incidentally the suffix C will put him in 2 Kompanie, Bataillon D XIII.

All that I could find for Rose was :

FP Nr. 35858 belonged to Stab u. 1.-4. Kompanie Bataillon D XIII.

And that didn't say a thing to me.

Great to see that you were able to find much more to that FP NR. and that there is a unit for it now, as Bataillon D XIII. didn't say much.

Rose when your man was stationed in Denmark in early January 1945, he couldn't be fighting at the German-Luxemburg border during the battle of the Bulge. (something I wrote to you earlier, but I didn't know where Bataillon D XIII. was stationed.

But I know that you liked that Soldbuch anyway.

Well, I do thank you fellas.

It's unfortunate this guy didn't fight in the Battle of the Bulge, but as you said Eric.. I already knew that from our previous conversations, and I do indeed like the soldbuch.

It's good to know where he was at the time of the battle. I think it strange for him to be training elsewhere as he was already a combat vet, but maybe he was getting a break. He died only four months later
