Late War Unit Help

I can find nothing on what is probably a very late-war unit. Thanks in advance.

Korps Aufklärungs-Abteilung (mot.) 490

Given the number it belonged to the LXXXX Korps which was formed in nov. 44

Thanks for the information Simon. The Nov. 44 date would fit for the individual I am researching. Not sure why an Aufklärungs-Abteilung was created at the Korps level. The 490th certainly existed, but are not mentioned as part of LXXXX Korpstruppen on the Lexicon. Just a guess, LXXXX did have a Radfahr-Kompanie which may have been expanded into an Aufklärungs-Abteilung? Would also be interesting to know what vehicles they used since they were motorized.

I guess it was raised for the Wacht am Rhein operation. It would make sense to give the korps extra motorised recce elements.

You might want to start looking for OOBs of the korps and its parent armee, by that i mean the original German gliederungen rather than something transcribed post-war.

Thanks for the search tip Simon. Will check it out. Would be interesting to know what the reasoning was behind the LXXXX assigning the 490th at the Corps rather than at the divisional level in there operational area. As mentioned I have not seen such an assignment with a ground recce unit before. Need to check if this was happening with any of the other Korps in the area, or on any of the other fronts.
