    Kampfgruppenkommandeure / Battle Groups Commanders

    Dear Visitors,
    <O
I have compiled the following list together to identify the different battle groups in the Remagen Bridgehead between 20th and 30th of March 1945. For this work I have analyzed the G-2 Periodic Reports of the 1st US Infantry Division. In the most cases the battle groups were named after their commanders, so, as example, Hauptmann Heinrich Kemler was commanding officer of the battle group named "Kampfgruppe Kemler".<O</O</O
Also within the list there are other German officers, a few of them were honored with the German Cross in Gold. Names without the “Kampfgruppen” where unit commanders in the before named unit.<O</O
    <O</O

Red colored Names are officers with German Cross in Gold.<O</O
    <O</O

I would like to collect any probably little hint concerning the following persons and would be very thankfully to receive any little bit of additional information. I hope that anyone could provide perhaps a photo or possible Address to the men or to the next of kin.
    </O
Any Data like Date of birth and / or place and Date of Death and / or place are pretty much welcome.<O
    <O</O

Your help is much appreciated. <O</O

    Thanks a lot

            concerning Oberst Scheffer...

like german prisoners of war told to the american interogators, it was just from middle march, that Scheffer again took command over the 3rd Divisions Artillery.

            Thanks a lot

              Hello,

I'm sorry to post a message in this topic after the last post was four months ago, but, what information do you have about Kampfgruppe Oberleutnant Sievers?

I am in the possession of a Soldbuch which belonged to Oberleutnant Karl Sievers, who served in the 9. Panzer-Division and served from at least from 1938 until the end of the war. Might be a long shot, but could it be the same Oberleutnant as the Kampfgruppe Kommandeur?

              With kind regards,

              Koen.

Karl Sievers was the commander of the battle group named after him: It was called "Kampfgruppe Sievers". They were on late on 25th of March 80 men strong and fought against the 104th Infantry in vicinity of Asbach (more in the southern direction of the town). They were used as schnelle Einsatzgruppe and where subordinated to the 10. Pz.Gren.Regt. At Thelenberg they had a pretty hard when a battle occured, that last near the whole day and after Thelenberg changed the third time hands, 30 men went into american captivity, many others where killed or wounded. After this Battle only 80 men where left of the unit and fought there way back into direction of Flammersfeld. Before battlegroup reached Flammersfeld they tried to defend an amunition dump in vicinity of Schöneberg, where they lost a tank or a halftrack and further more a few men. It is said, that the action at Thelenberg was so hard, that it would fit to receive a Knights Cross.

Later - arround the 30th or 31st March Oberleutnant Sievers was heavy wounded while he leads an attack in southern vicinity of the river Sieg in vicinity of Eisern.
