volksbund searches

can you get a successfull search through the volksbund site with just a soldiers first and last name or do you need all his other details as well,(birthdate,place of birth,date of death,missing etc etc)?

Im trying to find out details of soldiers from award docs and obviously all they have written is the soldiers Rank,name,unit,etc and im wondering with only that info,is it possible to get any info from the volksbund grabersuche?

Yes, you can just use the surname and first name. Bear in mind the database is far from complete with regard to the Eastern Front.

I found the luftwaffe guy,whos wehrpas i have.But i had no luck with the grenadier,whos award docs i have.

Am i correct in assuming,there wont be any information available,if the guy wasnt killed or reported missing?

Hi Keifer,

only dead or missing soldiers are listed, but as Gary said, the database is far from complete. They have only about 1500000 names listed but they are still working on it.
