Pz Jag Abt 272 1st Co info needed

Hello, I recently acquired an Id'ed panzer camo field-made jacket for a member of this unit. Having some difficulty finding detailed information on this unit. Can anyone help? I would be very grateful for all responses. Thanks, Mike.

I found quite a few links by doing a search. Try the term 'Pz Jg Abt 272' and you should have some luck.

      Cheers

You're in luck, Pz.Jg.Abt. 272 was the antitank battalion of the 272 volks grenadier division. when it comes to the infantry, relatively little has been written about them and even less in English as most literature has tended to concentrate on ever popular W-SS, FJ and other 'sexy' units.

the 272 VGD is an exception to that rule. Fellow forum member Doug Nash wrote a book called 'Victory was beyond their grasp' no so long ago on the history of this division. It's a well written and well researched book and will provide you with as much information on the division as you will ever be able to find. I highly recommend it to you.

They appear to have been equipped with the Hetzer, 14 of them having been issued to the battalion on 28th October 44.

                      Hi,

I got this field made camo jacket now in my collection. It came along with 2 copies of documents of the Oberfeldwebel, Siegfried Geissler

I did some further research on this person and his unit. Before it was reformed into the 272nd Volks Grenadier Division, Pz Jag Abt 272 was part of the 272nd Infantery Division who fought in Normandy at the Battle of Caen!
Hauptmann and Ritterkreuztrager Friedrich Adrario was commander of this unit.

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything about Siegfried Geissler. If someone has some more information please let me know!

                      Cheers

                      Erwin
