History of Recon Unit 18 of 18.I.D.

I want a unit history of the Reconnaissance Battalion Unit of the 18th Infantry Division.

Another web site shows this book:

    Geschicte der Aufklarungs-Abteilung (tmot) 18 - 18. Infanterie-Division (tmot) vom 24.8.1939 bis 1.10.1942 - G. W. Jeffke, Hrsg., Selbst, Munster 1992

I would appreciate any leads for this book.

I have tried the bookseller websites listed on this site, as well as amazon.com with no luck. I even wrote a letter to someone in Munster with the same name as the author. No response. I was able to get another of his books thru amazon.de on a predecessor unit. I have a P.08 pistol with unit markings to the predecessor unit (8th Reiter Reg.)

I have Jefkke's History of the 8 Reiter Reg. Great book, published in 1964. The book I need now on the A.A.18 was published in 1992. I wonder why there is no availability for the latter book.

There is a good unit history of the A.A. 18 on www.lexicon-der-wehrmacht.de under listing for the 18 I.D. It is several paragraphs long and seems to be written in the first person. Author unknown. It states that the 1st, 5th and 7 squadrons of the 8 R.R. were formed into the A.A. 18. The luger I have is marked "1./R.R. 8.28" indicating it belonged to the 1st sq. or Eskadron of the 8th Reiter Regiment.

If you ever get this book, I would gladly pay for a copy of it.

I saw on another forum you mentioned you wrote to Jeffke...he did live in Münster but I presume he must have died or gone into a home as I have his photo albums.

He was listed as the Kameradschaftsführer of Reiter/Kavallerie Regiment 8 in Das Deutsches Soldatenjahrbuch until 1990 but not after then!

He also wrote a book on Reiter Regiment 21 but I can not find that either!

Why do you want a copy of the book if you have a luger? Very difficult to identify who it belonged to!!! It might not have even passed over to Aufkl.Abt. 18!

                von Hauptmann a.D. G.W. Jeffke 1973 ???

That would be the one......can't find a copy for myself.

Does it have a "Lebenslauf" of Jeffke at all? All I know is he was the Kameradschaftsführer of Reiter/Kavallerie Regiment 8 and was a retired Hauptmann.Of course he would appear to have served with Reiter Regiment 21 which was formed from elements of Kavallerie Regiment 8 and Kavallerie Ersatz Abteilung 8 was its replacement unit. When the unit was reformed as Panzer Regiment 24 he appears to transfer out.

                  Regards,
                  Ian

I doubt I will ever find out who the 28th gun was issued to in 1921. But, it seems the the 8 R.R. was dissolved by the end of August 1939 with its units going to the 8 I.D., 18 I.D, and 28 I.D. I am assuming that the units took their weapons with them instead of leaving them in their home garrisons in the Breslau area. The only reference I have to the 1st Sq. is that it went into the A.A. 18 of the I8 I.D. So this is why I hunt for that unit history. It may turn out be a search that will take a very long time. Regards.
