    KIA Pioneer Officer

I am trying to locate a Russian town that a Pioneer Officer was killed in. The Officer was attached to the 295th Pi Btl of the 295th Inf Div. He was killed in 9/1942 in Kloh Nowajernedesha. Anyone have an idea where this is located or the actual Russian name?
    Thanks, Stephen

    Stephen,
As the division was progressing towards Stalingrad (reached Sep 1942) the place where he was killed must be relatively close to that location.
The general route the division took from july - Sept 1942:
Debalzewo - Woroschilowsk - Woroschilowgrad - Kamjensk - Morosowskaja - Surowikino - crossed river "Tschir" - crossed the "Don" and reached Stalingrad.
I could send a scan of the (general) map with this route
    (send PN with email-adress)
    Peter

You are no doubt talking about Oberleutnant Theodor Blase, Chef 1./Pi.Btl.295, awarded the DKiG on 26.09.1942:
      Nachname: Blase
      Vorname: Theodor Wilhelm Karl Friedrich
      Dienstgrad: Hauptmann
      Geburtsdatum: 15.03.1913
      Geburtsort: Stettin
      Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 02.09.1942
      Todes-/Vermisstenort: Kloh Nowajernedeshda

I think Volksbund mangled the spelling of the place of death but I can definitely confirm that it is Novo-Nadezhda, a small village about 10km north-west of Stalingrad. I don't know what "Kloh" is supposed to mean.

      Hope that helps.

OK, I dug out an old map of Stalingrad and found what "Kloh" means. Volksbund typed it in incorrectly... it should be "Klch.", the German contraction for Kolchose (kolkhoz). That means Blase died at Novaya Nadezhda collective farm. His place of burial – Borodkin – is a small village a few kms north-west of the farm.
