FJ Obergefreiter from Crete battle information request

    Hi guys,

Another request thanks, I have in my possession an honour plaque for the battle of Crete, named to Obergefreiter Mueller (Muller with umlauts over the u), and would love to get some more information on the man if possible.

As he was awarded the plaque, I am guessing he would have been involved in the earlier invasions of Holland and the Low Countries, and would probably
have been awarded the EK 1 and 2.

His rank on the plaque is for Obergefreiter, and that along with his name is the only information I have on him, is there any way of getting additional information
on this soldier at all ??

    Many thanks in advance,

    Best wishes

    Bob

    Hi Bob,

You can try the Volksbund, they have information on soldiers killed in WWI and WW2. You can also try the DD WASt, they are the sorce for military records. I’ve received records of numerous family members including my Oma’s one Uncle who was a Fallschirmjager and jumped into Kreta. The only issue with the DD WASt is that some of the researchers will only give information to people who are the persons legal representative i.e. the soldier him self, son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter ect. Some researchers have denied me because the relative I was trying to attain their records on where Uncles. I hope this helps.

I recommend your country-fellowman Ian Tannahill, as far as I know he is trying to complete a list of all man who were awarded those shields. Eric Queen has many records about those man, too.

        Bob,

it will be a problem with the guy Müller if you do not know his first name. Müller is one of the most common names in Germany.

There are 43.272 entries Müller in the Volksbund list of those Müller who have been KIA in
        ww1 and ww2.

I think now you can imagine the problem ...

Thanks guys, yeah I figured that his name was a fairly common one, and without a unit or first name I was pushing a wonky wheelbarrow uphill,
I will see if I can get some info from Ian, a couple of the troops up in Brisbane
know him well, and he may have some thing I can add to the history of the
          plaque !

          Thanks again

          Best wishes

          Bob
