    Werkstatt Kompanie Info

    Hi,

I have an award document for a gefreiter in Werkstatt-Kp 45 which is a workshop company attached to the 45th Infantry Division.
What I want to know is what exactly did a workshop company do and were they attached one to a division or did each regiment have one. The award document is for a KVK with swords 2nd class. Any information would be a great help. Thanks

Vehicle workshop, to maintenance and repair them.
I believe only one for each Division.
But i would assume it might be more for a fully armoured/motorized division.

There also existed special repair or spare-parts zug´s (platoons) etc., but i don´t know if they fell under such a werkstatt company or were stand alone.

I was resently looking for info about Kraftfahrzeug-Instandsetzungs park 523 and Kraftfahrzeug-Instandsetzungs-kompanie 554 but could not find any info.
Instandsetzungs means repair, so the first unit was a special vehicle repair pool, and the second a vehicle repair kompanie.
But i would assume they both were for the bigger repair jobs, which a normal Werkstatt can´t do.

I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

Thanks Rick much appreciated. The Werkstatt Kp I was interested in belongs to the 45th Infantrie Division and is in fact Werkstatt Kp 45. Cant find anything on it but do appreciate you comments.

The divisional workshop company wasn't just for vehicles (motorised or horsedrawn) but also 2nd line repair for weapons.

Rick's right, motorised\armoured divisions had two or three such companies.

Thanks for that info Simon. So it would be probably safe to assume that soldiers working with a Werkstatt company would probably have some qualifications or trade ie mechanical, gunsmith that type of thing.

I have a grouping to a waffenmeister oberfeldwebel who worked initially as waffenmeister with a regiment, then moved to the division's werkstatt kompanie
