I have just come into a fair bit of information on my Grandfathers brother:
OberGefrieter Friedrich Marten KIA 15.8.42 " Oskiuskij " Sud-Russland, He was at the time with the 545Th Inf. regt. 389th Inf. Div. 6th Army!
He died somewhere in front of Stalingrad.... Where?
Does anyone know how I can find the town he fought and died at? Is there a place to go to that would translate the town into Russian?
Finding assistance on this would mean a great deal to me as this is "Family", once I get this all completed I will work on my Grandfathers WWII history in the Kust Art..
Here is also a list of the units Friedrich Marten was in and battles ( in complete):
1939- IR. 87 Fought in Lux., Maginot line, Belg., France, Russia- he
39-40 IR 107 fought all the way to "Tula" Russia and made it through
40-41 IR 258 the retreat back.
42- IR 545
His son said, that his mother received his "Book", watch and wedding ring. I have a couple of pictures and really thats all thats left of this man. His son is a nice fellow but the Germans get ... I don't know, real reserved on this stuff, kind of a shame I would really like to take this data and history and paint him a picture of his Fathers "War".
Anyway I would be so very happy to hear from any members who could help me gather more information and find the town he died at.
Many Thanks!
Robert
