    Hi jerry
    1945 would be difficult because the regiment 851 ( belonging to the 343 Inf Div) with underunits was taken POW Sept 1944 when the US forces took Brest.
    I assume the FPNr 24430C is already known to You. This FPNr was erased 8.2.1945. When an unit was annihilated, taken POW .... the FPNr in general stayed "open" for 3-4 months.
    You could look in the BA-MA Freiburg for data on the 343 ID.

      Peter;
      Thank you for the reply. I didn't know when or where this unit was located and don't have a FPn for it. So the '45 part was a guess. This unit is a anti tank Pz/ Gren Rgt?
      Again thanks for any additional information.

        Jerry,
        The 343 ID was an occupation Div, not (very) capable to "move arround".
        The Regt 851 (Staff FPNr 24430A) had in 1944 2 bataljons (I and II) with each 4 Coys.
        I Bn (FPNr 27591) had Coys 1,2,3 and (heavy) 4
        II Bn (FPNr 29137) had Coys 5,6,7 and (heavy) 8
        (before 1944 it had III ,FPNr 32438, with coys 9,10,11 and 12, )
        As its regimental extra support Coys there were:
        - the 13 th Coy: mortar Coy (FPNr 24430D)
        - the 14 th Coy:a (fixed/not movable) antitank Coy (FPNr 24430B)
        - the 15 th Coy (Your Coy!): a second antitank Coy wich was limited mobile .

            343.ID were indeed located in the north sector of Brest, in Britany. The division sent many units to Normandy. Others were destroyed near or in the Festung Brest. Note that the "CCR" of the 6th Armoured Division reported the destruction of the heavy coy of Gren. Regt. 851, on 9 august 44, in Bourg-Blanc near Brest. Perhaps it is the same unit ?
