    Possible U Boat death Card

I am looking for a few more opinions about this card. I have a death card to an Obergefreiter FRITZ Gessenharter. Birthdate 30.Oct.1921, death date 23.April.1943. I looked up the name on the volksbund grave search and found a Friedrich (not Fritz) Gessenharter listed. Same birth year (no date given) and same death date. The mention that he might be remembered at the Uboot memorial at Kiel prompted me to search the ubootwaffe.net crew lists, where I also found a Friedrich Gessenharter who died in the on U602. Same birth date and death dates when the U602 was sunk. To me this seems like these are the same person, however the discrepancy in names has not made it 100% for me. I suppose rank and place of death are also the same, but I wasn't awards that Fritz and Friedrich were related names. Any opinions?

all facts indicate that your "Fritz" on the death card is the same "Friedrich" you found in the Volksbund list and KIA with U-602 in the Med. Sea.

In Germany the name "Friedrich" is very often abbreviated in "Fritz".
