I would read the name "Gruner" - and if this is really "Gruner" and whe he made it to be a

Generalmajor there was an Erich Gruner, Generalmajor KIA 12.05.1944 in Russia...

Thanks for your reply. On 7 July 1941, Oberst Erich Gruner was the commander of 589th Infantry Regiment. Was this unit based in Dijon on that date? I doubt it was him, so the question of identity remains.
