    need research on a kia luftwaffe observer

    hy mates with some help i already found this:

    Unteroffizier Heinrich Schnuer
    Born: 11.3.1923 in Jlsenburg
    Killed in action: 24.4.1944, Arne, UK

    On the night of 23/24 of April 1944 the Geschwader was on a bombing mission to Bristol, UK. 117 bombers from IX Fliegerkorps were to take part in this mission. 4 aircraft were lost from KG 2.
    Schnuer was acting as observer in Ju 188 E1 "U5+GH", Werk Nr. 180414 with 1 Staffel, I Gruppe, Kampfgeschwader 2.
    He was shot down by flak and was was seen to crash at 02:30 in Arne, Dorset, UK.

    Crew were:

    FF. Lt. Wolfgang Christoff
    BO. Uffz. Heinrich Schnuer
    BF Ogfr. Wolfgang Biegerl
    BS Ogfr. Theo Joretzki
    BS Fw. Horst Huffsky

    He is buried along with his crew at the in the Wareham Cemetry UK.

    is it possible to find info on missions, awards etc he got killed in the later stages of the war and i have his hat and photo of him as a gefreiter

        To find out more you would need to research KG 2 and get his personnel file. You may find more via the KG 2 route as there are a lot of LW researchers out there but WAF is not really the place for that.
        Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

          re Schnuer & KG2

          Have you got the 2 volume series "Der Luftkrieg in Europa" 1939-1945 by Ulf Balke? Volume 2 has reference to the final mission. If you wish to see it, pm me with your email address and I will send you digital photos of the pages involved. It is in German of course.
