    The 3rd ID are located on the south west perimeter...

      This map showing the kessel shows 3 ID in what was known to the Germans as the " Marinovka nose ". They were pretty much destroyed in that area of the Steppe during the Russian offensive of mid january 1943.

        Where the 3rd not early in the campaign also in the north eastern part of Stalingrad itself? Jacques

            On the eve of the Russian counter-offensive this chart shows them up to the north east (can't remember title of book that this chart was taken from)...
