got this letter sent from Afrika with FPN 17192. Could anyone shed some light on the unit ,time period and locatin .

To understand the location you need to know the date when the letter was sent.

I'm real sorry that I forgot the date. Letter is in Europe and I just learned it was sent on 23. 08. 1942. It states that they have moved a couple of hundred km into the desert now from the coast and are beeing awakend by English fliger MG's ,every morning . He mentiones the cannons ,which they are not using much at the time of writing.
This falls between the dates that Justin provided
Later he became a POW and spent some time in USA . He settled in Canada after the war .
